How Websites or Blogs Make Money Online

Tips on how to make money with websites or blogs
Traffic is the most important factor in making money with a website or blog. The word “traffic” refers to the “visitors” who view the website or the blog. But not just any traffic, for a website or blog to earn traffic must of quality. Quality traffics are those visitors who are viewing websites or blog because they are interested on the content. Other kinds of traffic are accidental traffic and forced traffic which is not very helpful when it comes to making money with website or blog. Accidental traffics are obviously traffics that accidentally visit the website/blog, and forced traffics or also known as reward traffics are visitors who view website/blog because of reward.

To lure quality traffics to a website or blog, it can be promoted using advertising websites (easy but costly) or promote such website/blog freely by improving its Page Rank in search engines and putting the website/blogs links in other popular websites. The more links put in other sites, the more chances of getting traffic. Although, this is not easy, this technique is very effective.

Once a website or blog is already getting enough quality traffic, it can now start making money. Here is how websites or blogs make money online:

1. Put PPC Advertising Networks to website/blog

PPC or Pay-Per-Click advertising networks are companies that offer web developers and bloggers opportunities to make money online by placing their ads on websites or blogs. And the largest PPC advertising network online is the Adsense (owned by Google). But yet, there are other known PPC sites like YPN (Yahoo Publisher Network), Chitika, Adbrite, Kontera, Adhitz, etc.

Earnings in PPC advertising is based on the amount of traffic a website or blog has, and most importantly, on the click-through rate (CTR) and cost per click (CPC). The CTR depends on the design of the website. Ads placed abode the fold or blended with content, for instance, tend to get higher CTRs. The CPC, on the other hand, depends on the nice of the website. Mortgages, financial products and college education are examples of profitable niches (clicks worth a couple of dollars are not rare), while tech-related topics tend to receive a smaller CPC (sometimes as low as a couple of cents per click).

The source of the traffic can also affect the overall CTR rate. Organic traffic (the one that comes from search engines) tends to perform well because these visitors were already looking for something, and they tend to click on ads more often. Social media traffic, on the other hand, presents terribly low CTRs because these visitors are tech-savvy and they just ignore ads.

2. Put CPM Advertising Networks to website/blog

Note: Website can contain several PPC ads, CPM ads or other kinds of ads at the same time unless these advertising networks allowed it. Adsense is very strict when it comes to mixing ads on pages, that it doesn’t allow their ads be placed side by side with other ads. This can lead to suspension of Adsense account or much worst banned for life.

CPM or Click-Per-Mile (also known as Click-Per-Thousand) advertising networks is similar to PPC site. But website/blog get paid according to the number of impressions (number of impressions is the number of times ads are viewed and not clicked) that the ads displayed on your site will generate. CPM stands for Cost per Mille, and it refers to the cost for 1,000 impressions.

Suppose a website/blog can generates 300,000 page views monthly displaying an advertising banner with a $1 CPM, therefore, will earn $300 monthly.

CPM rates vary with the network, the position of the ad and the format. The better the network, the higher the CPM rate (because they have access to more advertisers). The closer you put the ad to the top of the page, the higher the CPM. The bigger the format (in terms of pixels), the higher the CPM.

You can get as low as $0,10 and as high as $10 per 1,000 impressions (more in some special cases). CPM advertising tends to work well on websites with a high page views per visitor ratio (e.g., online forums, magazines and so on).

Here is the list of popular CMP advertising networks:

• Casale Media

• Burst Media

• Value Click

• Tribal Fusion

• Right Media

3. Make an Affiliate Marketing website/blog

Websites that are promoting Affiliate program or doing affiliate marketing can still put PPC ads and CPM ads but it should follow advertising networks policies.

Affiliate marketing involves merchants that let affiliates to sell their products. Affiliates then earn through commissions for every sale they made. Affiliates don’t only earn from selling products of merchants, they can also earn for every task they provide a merchant. This is called CPA (cost per action) or CPL (cost per lead).

Example: Merchant Surveyor wants visitors to fill up some survey questions. Affiliates will then promote this surveyor’s survey questions on his/her website/blog. And everytime a visitor to that website/blog fill up this survey questions, the affiliate earn.

Affiliates can send potential customers to the merchant using several tools, from banners to text links and product reviews.

Here are some list of popular Affiliate Marketing websites.

• Commission Junction

• ClickBank

• Azoogle Ads

• Link Share
